Hiking Training 3
On the 17th March 2016, Uniformed and Public Services L3 went on a hike around Bridgwater, mainly around the Chedzoy area. The task was to get from a specific point whilst using the map we were given, but to navigate with no lecturer support.
I believe this was one of the best hikes out of the three because the way each group communicated with each other whilst hiking and in the planning process was really good. In the other two hikes, the communication skills were not as good because of the lack of experience and knowledge. Each group were asking for help a lot less, comparing with the first and second hike because again, we had limited amount of knowledge and experience.
The timings of each section is also getting a lot better. Eventhough a lot of the timings are mainly guess work, we are pretty much arriving to our destinations on time. This could be down to the speed we are all walking which could also show our group fitness is improving. Within this factor, we were motivating each other to ensure the speed is at it's maximum.
Each student brought the appropiate kit needed to be able to participate in the hike. Some people did not have the correct size ruksack available on the morning of the hike, but that was no matter as the college had a number of spare ruksacks avaiable for the students to use. I would suggest the students is to ensure they have all of the gear ready, two days before the start of the expedition and training, just to make sure that they have everything, including the ruksack.
