Rock Climbing (P1,M1)
Rock climbing is an activity and a sport in which participants are required to climb up, down and sometimes across rock faces and artificial walls. Usually climbers have an ambition to climb to the peak of a cliff, mountain or wall without falling. There are mainly three types of climbing which are sport climbing, free climbing and bouldering.
There are competitions available for competent and professional climbers whose goal is to complete a climbing route as quickly as possible, or to complete the furthest and most difficult route.
Climbing is an intense, physical sport/activity which tests climbers strength, endurance and other fitness factors. Rock climbing can be highly dangerous, but when techniques are performed correctly and efficiently, it is an extremly enjoyable sport.

Rock Climbing is highly beneficial for the upper-body such as the shoulders, biceps and triceps which are not worked as hard in other land based activities. It is also important for improving the joints in the human body. Rock climbing can improve the strength in the joints and can make rock climbers more flexible, this means the climbers will be able to climb more efficiently with ease and capable to climb more difficult routes. Orienteers for example, do not require a high amount of upper-body strength because they do not need to climb up or down anything, but they will need to focus on their aerobic endurance. It would be advisible for climbers to climb in dry weather for safety reasons, but comparing it to mountain biking, orienteering and hiking, people can participate in these activities in all weather conditions.
However, rock climbing is the only activity on my website that requires ropes to enable climbers to be safe. Also, rock climbing is the only sport in which people could participate in side for training or for leisure for example, whereas orienteering, mountain biking and hiking can only be performed outside.
What equipment do you need to bring?

Climbing Shoes: This allows climbers to improve their traction. They have a smooth, thick, rubber sole to protect feet from sharp and rough rocks but are thin enough for climbers to feel the rocks beneath their feet

Climbing Rope: Not all types of rock climbing requires climbing ropes. However, Sport Climbing requires climbing ropes that attach to bolts which allows climbers to only fall by a few metres instead of falling to ground level

Harnesses: Harnnesses provide support and safety to the climber which are attached to the rope and the climber

Belay Devices: Belay devices are used to hold the rope in place to stop a climber from falling

Protection: Protection is an object that is placed into the rock which can be removed once the climb is complete
