Hiking can be defined as 'a vigorous walk', mostly on footpaths in the countryside. There are various types of hiking that people can enjoy such as treking which is a multi-day hiking activity. People mainly engage in hiking to visit exciting view points, to visit new places and experience a new environment. There are many benefits when participating in hiking. It can improve participants physical and cardio fitness, especially on multi-day hiking expeditions and it can bring friends and family together.

Pt of M1:

Hikers will be required to pack specific equipment into a rucksack, depending on the distance. This is the same in orienteering and mountain biking. Different kinds of equipment is needed for these activities but they both require a first aid kit, food and drink, a map and clean, dry clothing depending on the weather conditions. Specific footwear is needed for both hiking and orienteering for safety and comfort.

What equipment is required?

Hikers who are performing a day hike take food, water, a geological map and wind/rainproof coat. In all hikes, a strong pair of hiking boots will definitly be required to protect feet from the uneven terrain, water and dangerous obstacles. A compass is needed in case people get seriously lost. A compass will show what direction to go according to the map. In high UV sun weather, sunglasses and sunscreen will be required to protect eyes and the skin from the sun light. A first aid kit should be carried to treat minor injuries of participants.
